Symposium participants are invited to join the new international society called Health Systems Global, which will be launched at the Second Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Beijing, 31 October-3 November, 2012. The governing body of the society will be chosen there by members, who will also initiate the goals and activities for the coming two years. Consequently, the Beijing meeting is offering a special registration that includes membership to provide the opportunity to everyone to get involved, and several side working group meetings for further discussion (more information will come after you register).

The concept for the Society was developed at the First Global Symposium in Montreux in 2010. The goal was to provide a larger constituency and enhance the credibility and capacity for health systems research globally and in low- and middle-income countries specifically.  This society is member driven and constitutes the first global body fully dedicated to promoting health systems research in low- and middle-income countries.

Activities will span three broad areas of work:
• Create new knowledge
• Support knowledge translation focusing on bridging knowledge creation with practical application
• Foster research on the application of new knowledge in real world settings, i.e., implementation science

  Thematic working groups:

As a part of the society’s member-driven activities, a series of thematic working groups will be developed. These groups will provide a platform to exchange experiences and ideas on particular aspects of health systems research, including the latest developments.

Each group will be led by two experts, who will facilitate debate and discussion about the key issues in the field. They will maintain an email list of the members and will organize section meetings at the global symposia. It is at the discretion of each group if they would like to plan interim meetings at events of their choice. These positions are non-remunerative.

To create a group, a 1‑2 page expression of interest, outlining the detailed scope of the group’s focus area, as well as the names of the interested members should be sent to the Secretariat, who will review the material and prepare it for Board consideration.

Below is a preliminary list of 9 suggested thematic working groups, which can be discussed before, during and at the general members’ meeting in Beijing at the global symposium (3 Nov 2012). Additional suggestions should be sent to .
